2024Children Day: Ireede-Oginni Grassroots Foundation Worries Over 10million Out Of School Pupils In Nigeria

A Non-Governmental Organization Ireede-Oginni Grassroots Foundation has expressed concern over the 10.2million out of the pupils at  basic education level in Nigeria, calling on government at all tiers to invest massively in the education sector in the country, to give children who are the future a renewed hope for  brighter tomorrow

Founder of the foundation, Chief (Hon.) Funmilayo Ireede-Oginni who raised the concern in a message to celebrate the year 2024 International Children Day on Monday, also worried over failure of 24 out of the 36 states including Ogun State to access the grant by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) fund put at N54.90billion  to support funding of basic education system in the country

The founder of Future Promise Group of Schools Abeokuta and Chief Executive Officer of emerging conglomerate Terra Integrated Services Limited was disturbed that only 12 states paid their 50 percent marching grant to access the UBEC fund designed to support the enhancement of education facilities and resources such as the construction of classrooms, training of teachers,  provision of instructional materials, installation of boreholes and toilet facilities

The foundation stressed the need for most of the states yet to pay their marching grants since 2020 according to UBEC , to urgently pay their counter-part fund to enable them access the N54.90billion available fund to provide more Classrooms to reduce the worrisome rate of out of school population in the country which according to UNICEF represents 15percent of the global statistics

The foundation strongly believed that such investment in the education sector would renew the hope of Nigerian children in the country

Ireede-Oginni reassured that her foundation would continue to compliment the effort of government, by supporting gifted and brilliant learners from less priviledged homes through provision of scholarship awards to assist them in their educational pursuits

She added that her foundation would sustain empowerment of more women with resources to support their various vocational trades and small scale businesses
