Judiciary workers in Ogun State will on Monday, 8th of April, 2024 begin indefinite strike , shutting down activities in various courts within the State Judiciary jurisdiction , to compel the State Government to pay 40 percent peculiar allowance which according to them, has been approved by the National Salaries and Wages Commission for payment to every worker in the judiciary across the country
Chairman of State branch of
Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria(JUSUN), Comrade Ajiboye Olanrewaju Tunji through the Publicity Secretary of the union, Comrade (Prince) Adewale Adenekan announced the indefinite industrial in a notice to members over the weekend, obtained by Edu-Biznews
The union directed their members to stay at their various homes beginning from Monday, until further notice
Leadership of JUSUN accused the State Government of not responding to various moves made , after the five-day warning strike held in March on the non-payment of the peculiar allowance to workers in the judiciary arm of government
The union claimed to have forwarded
the documents requested by the representative of the State Government since 8th of March 2024 to Governor Dapo Abiodun and copied Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Head of Service (HoS), and Attorney General of the State,
"The documents included the approval issued by the National Salaries and Wages Commission to the NJC for the payment of the Peculiar Allowance to the Federal Judiciary Workers to support our claim and that Judiciary as an independent body entitled to the allowance.", the union stated
JUSUN added that several attempts were made to reach out to the SSG and top government's functionaries to resolve the issue with no response
"We had equally made several attempts to contact/reach out to the SSG and other relevant top functionaries of the State Government to let them know the reasons why the leadership of JUSUN should be call to a meeting to discuss and resolve this issue on time but they have refused to budge", the union explained
"Similarly, after due consultation with the relevant stakeholders including the National Headquarter of our great Union, JUSUN, we decided to give additional 14 days to State Government starting from 18th March to 1st April, 2024 to allow the Government enough time to do the needful"
"This scenario has left us with no other option but to take adequate and necessary action appropriate "
"In view of the above, every member of Ogun State JUSUN were directed through this medium to stay at their various homes beginning from Monday 8th of April, 2024 till further notice" , the union declared
