Ogun State Government has flagged off the distribution of Reuse materials to the less priviledged in the state, putting smile on their faces of those who celebratd this year's festive period of Easter and others marking the end of Ramadan fasting with Eid-el-Fitri on Wednesday and Thursday
The distribution according to the Prince Dapo Abiodun's administration, is part of its all- inclusive social contract with its people especially the less priviledged in the state
The Reuse items were donated from the State Government's earlier launched Renew and Reuse Waste Agenda which called on residents of the state to donate items they consider waste and might be useful to other especially the vulnerable people in the society.
The Reuse items such as clothes,shoes-both for adults and younger ones,toys and kitchen utensils and have gone through the state government renewal processes and certified fit for usage were giving out to over one thousand beneficiaries.
The State Commissioner for Environment, Mr Ola Oresanya while handing over the different items to them at the Abeokuta North Local Government Headquarters, Akomoje, said the distribution of the items was the beginning of a long journey which started late last year
According to him, the initiative is a dream come true at making sure that residents of the state gives back to the less privileged in the society through the all inclusive Renew and Reuse Agenda of the state government.
He added that the distributed items serves as palliatives to reduce the pains of the beneficiaries to the nation's economic downturn and thanked those who donated the items for being their brothers keepers at this auspicious time.
Oresanya further revealed that the distribution of such items and other ones as donated by residents of the state will hold in the remaining nineteen local government council areas of the state in the not too distant dates saying that the state government led by Prince Dapo Abiodun will continue to be inclusive by encouraging people to donate to the Renew and Reuse Agenda through provision of more Collection Centres while the state government will play its part by renewing the donated items so that together the less privileged will be better lifted in the society.
On efforts at encouraging people to donate more items, Oresanya said the Ministry of Environment in conjunction with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and Rotary Club of Abeokuta who are prime movers of the programme would reach out to more individuals,mosques, churches eateries,fuel stations,local council authorities among others through placement of Collection Boxes in their premises so that many residents of the state can be part of this all inclusive programme.
Also speaking the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye said distribution of the Reuse item came at the right time when the less privileged needed the materials for the twin celebrations adding that the state government will not rest on its laurels until the less privileged are lifted to take their rightful position in the society.
She therefore called on public spirited individuals to donate items which they consider not useful to them to the Renew and Reuse Waste Agenda adding that the state government will personally collect their donations if they don't want to put them in Collection Boxes near them for social,personal and cultural reasons.
The Renew and Reuse Waste Agenda of the Ogun State government was launched last December to collect some items such as clothes,shoes,toys, kitchen utensils, books which are considered wastes by some but are useful to others especially the less privileged after they might have been renewed by the state government.
The programme also seeks to eliminate these items from finding their ways to the landfills thereby making them useful to others who desire them as well reducing wastes coming to the landfills.
