BOILING POINT: Shehu Sani, Bolawole To Dissect Lawlessness Of The Military And Siege On Media

The conversation around the seeming lawlessness of the Military and the
recent travails of the Editor of First News Online, Mr Segun Ọlatunji in Detention following his abduction by armed soldiers is to be further elevated on the popular monthly interview discourse, BOILING POINT ARENA on Sunday April 14, 2024.

To do justice to the issue are notable Kaduna-based activist, Senator Shehu Sani and former Deputy Editor-in-chief and Chairman, Editorial Board of Punch Newspapers, Mr Bola Bolawole who are expected as Guest Speakers/Discussants at the online show.

The once-in-a-month current affairs programme will hold via Zoom and will be transmitted live on a radio station, Sweet 107.1FM for a two-hour duration from 8pm.

Boiling Point Arena, with an incredibly large online followership, is the brainchild of the Initiator and Convener, Dr Ayo Arowojolu, a media professional with 34 years multi-varied work career spanning the media, banking and education sectors.

This particular edition of the online discourse on governance and nation building, is the 18th such installment since the programme debuted in November 2022.

The topic of discourse is: "*Democracy: The Media Under Siege? Travails of Journalist Segun Olatunji in Military Detention*"

The duo of Senator Sani and Mr Bolawole are to offer perspectives on the dangers posed to Nigeria's current democracy through clamp down on freedom of expression and press freedom via the rather strange abduction of Journalist Ọlatunji before his eventual release.

The issue of need for total subordination of the armed forces to democratic authorities and institutions of justice would also be pushed to the front burner.

A foremost traditional ruler, the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Prof Saka Matemilola, is expected to deliver the keynote address to herald the discourse, in his capacity as the Chairman, Boiling Point Council of Royals and Elders.

According to a statement by the Chairman, Organizing Committee for the programme,  Mr Eddy Ademosu, one of Nigeria’s notable Public Relations Icon, the interview discourse will in particular point the way forward for a better strategy to combat insecurity in the country with less street visibility of soldiers who are obviously overreaching to civilian operations.

Mr Ademosu commended the Management of Sweet FM, chaired by the Promoter, Senator Olugbenga Obadara for identifying with worthy causes through partnering with the Boiling Point platform to widen the audience reach of the programme through its terrestrial and online channels
