Chrisland University at Ajebo Road in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Thursday matriculated 394 students for the new academic session of 2023/2024, charging them to embrace the leadership and entrepreneurial skills designed by the university to strengthen their capacity to excel in academic pursuit, achieve individual goals and overcome current economic challenges facing Nigeria
Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Chinedum Peace Babalola who gave the breakdown of the matriculated students to include 85 in the College of Arts, Management and Social Sciences, 72 (College of Natural and Applied Sciences), 200(College of Basic Medical Sciences and College of Law )35, assured the new intakes of the commitment of the university in sustaining a learning environment that will nurture them to be morally and intellectually sound graduates at end of their academic programmes
The Vice-Chancellor while speaking on the theme of the 9th matriculation "Overcoming and Winning Year", charged them to be ready to acquire the necessary training during their under graduate programmes in the university to overcome the present hard times and end up as winners
She stressed the need for them to work extra hard on their mindset and change it from fixed to growing mindset,so as to enable them accomplish the set goals of becoming a first class or second class upper division honour graduates at the end of their academic pursuit in the university
"Your mindset and attitude matter, if you want to get somewhere in life or succeed at what you are currently pursuing, you have to work on your mindset", she advised
"I urged you to continually bear in mind the reason you came to Chrisland University which I believe is to acquire knowledge that will enable you achieve your God given potentials "
The Vice-Chancellor however quickly reminded them on the need to abide by the rules and regulations of the university, saying the Institution has zero tolerance for cultism, drugs abused, bullying , hooliganism examination malpractices, Indecent dressing, exposure of private parts by female students
"The class attendance of 80% is mandatory for all students before they can take examinations . Avoid all acts of misconduct that will make you miss lectures".
"This university has zero tolerance for cultism, drugs abused, anyform of hooliganism, bullying and corruption. The university is strictly formal and the ladies should shun dresses that expose their private parts. The hand book is filled with guidelines that will make you a total students ", she cautioned
Similarly, guest speaker, Dr(Mrs) Kate Ikechi Isa charged them to always strive for academic excellence, by working extra hard to finish well with first class honour or second class upper division to attract the attention of employers of labour who are hunting to engage only the best of graduates to compete in Nigeria's highly challenging economy
The Chief Executive Officer of Katchey Company Limited, a dominant player in the science laboratory equipment space in the country, charged the matriculated students to be resilient to succeed and never be discouraged by circumstances around them
"Don't be disheartened by setbacks; instead, use them as stepping stones for growth. I faced challenges, too, but they taught me valuable lessons. Winning means not just reaching an endpoint but embracing the entirety of the journey that lies ahead. Ways to Win: Effective Time Management: Prioritize tasks and assignments"
She stressed the need for them to embrace mentorship by choosing right persons as mentors to guide them properly and add value to their academic pursuit
"Visit the library and online resources for research. Attend workshops or tutoring sessions when needed. Setting Realistic Academic Goals: Break down long-term goals into smaller, achievable milestones. Monitor progress regularly and make adjustments as needed. Celebrate accomplishments, both big and small"
"Balanced Lifestyle Ensure a balance between academic and personal well-being. Prioritize sufficient sleep and proper nutrition. Engage in physical activities to manage stress. Winning requires resilience"
"Therefore, dear matriculants, be rest assured that greatness lies within every one of you, and you are in the right place to harness it for the greater good", she submitted
Also speaking,Founder and Chancellor of the university, High Chief, Dr(Mrs) Winifred Awosika represented by daughter, Dr. Busola Faseun was full of appreciation for parents for choosing Chrisland as their choice of university, assuring the new students of the Institution's commitment to the tradition of academic excellence and promotion of their welfare on campus
Awosika who appreciated the management and staff for sustaining the vision and mission of the university, enjoined the students to be focused and never allowed peers group to influence and derail them from accomplishing their academic goals of being the shinning light and good ambassadors of Chrisland University, a brand known for academic excellence
Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) , Prof. Iziaq Oloyede represented by Mrs Abiola encouraged the matriculated students to make good use of the conducive learning environment to come out in flying colour at the end of their academic programmes
High points of the event included administration of the matriculation oath on the students and presentation of gift by the Vice-Chancellor to the guest speaker in appreciation of her contribution to the success of the colourful event
