Create Employment and Wealth For Yourself - Chrisland Varsity's Chancellor Charges Graduands




A total of 91 graduands of 2022/2023class from Chrisland University in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital have been charged  not to wait for white collar jobs but instead make use of entrepreneurial skills they acquired to create employment and make wealth for themselves 

Founder and Chancellor of the university, High Chief (Dr) Winifred Awosika who  gave the charge on Tuesday in Abeokuta during 5th convocation of the university, asked the graduating students to be agents of change in the society by coming up with innovations on how to do things better in  Nigeria


"You must see yourself as a leader who is ready to take responsibility for your life. Challenge the existing ways of doing things and be an innovator of better ways. Make use of the entrepreneurial skills you have learnt and develop them to create employment and wealth for yourself," the Chancellor urged them


Awosika who reaffirmed her commitment to provision of the needed resources to sustain the high-quality research and teaching in the university as a global brand, tasked the graduands to continue to engage in learning activities , whether formal or informal, "This will always make you compete favourably among your peers "

Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Chinedum Peace Babalola  had earlier lauded the vision of Awosika for her commitment to all levels of education with the establishment of Chrisland University as a centre of academic excellence 

On the status of academic programmes in the university, she revealed that the Nursing Department of the institution had been upgraded to Faculty of Nursing, following the approval of its indexing quota to one hundred and fifty (150) by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria 


She added that the university had received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to commence Postgraduate programmes including 11 Masters programmes in Accounting, MBA, Business Administration, Criminology & Security Studies, Economics, International Relations & Diplomacy, Mass Communication, Political Science, Psychology, Biochemistry, Computer Science and Microbiology, under its Post Graduate College  

"The process for the commencement of the programmes is still ongoing", the Vice-Chancellor stated


According to her, "Chrisland University is the first university to be accredited to run Doctor of Physiotherapy in Nigeria by both NUC and the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists(Registration) Board of Nigeria (MRTBN) 

The university she stated, also got final approval of the Council of Legal Education last November 16, 2022  to run Law Programme

The Vice-Chancellor disclosed that the students population in the past seven years had grown from mere seven at inception in 2016 to 1, 217 in the  2022/2023 session

Also speaking, the Pro-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Ayodeji Olukoju was full of praises for the vision of the founder for establishing the university and the leadership style of the Vice-Chancellor in the running of the university whom according to him, has transform the institution in the areas of physical infrastructure and academic excellence


He urged the graduands to combine precision with proficiency, saying a good blend of grace and grit will produce greatness

"Our country needs people who are skilled beyond book learning, who combine precision and proficiency", he stated



Governor Dapo Abiodun represented by the Ogun State Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu said that his administration would always create conducive environment for both public and private tertiary institutions to thrive in the state by provision necessary infrastructure 










High points of the event included award of first degrees to the Graduands and prizes to those with outstanding academic performances from both the College of Arts, Management and Social Sciences and College of Natural and Applied Sciences 


The overall best graduating student, Ezekwem Adachukwu Michelle of the Department of Software Engineering with Cumulative GPA of 4.91 promised that her  class of 2022/2023 would sustain the tradition of moral and academic excellence of Chrisland University Abeokuta
