Ogun State Government has vowed
to prosecute any individual, company, or community that aids illegality, by breaking government seals or contravening government notices of warning issued by it
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Engr. Olayiwola Abiodun issued the warning during an oversight inspection of the commercial facilities earlier sealed by the Ogun State Building Production Management Authority (OGBPMA) around the Mowe axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, noting that the low level of compliance to stop work and seal notices was not only poor but showed wilful disobedience to the rule of law.
Addressing journalists during the tour, the Permanent Secretary said the follow-up tour was to measure the effectiveness of the enforcement activities of OGBPMA
He stressed the need for property owners to obtain permits before they embark on any development, and tell those who have contravened to seek regularisation at the appropriate quarters.
Abiodun reiterated the need for any individual or corporate entity who is served a notice by any of the Authorities, to approach the Ministry or the Authorities with the documents they have, saying that even if they lack documents, they would be shown the proper processes to regularise their documents.
“We are not out to witch-hunt anyone or disturb your investments, but everything must be done in accordance with the law, towards achieving a safe and well-planned physical environment”, Engr. Abiodun stated.
The facilities visited included an ongoing filling station under construction and a warehouse, which were earlier sealed for not having either planning permits or building authorisations, while an industrial park under construction with several multi-storey buildings and an industrial factory facility with multiple buildings were both sealed for not obtaining building authorisations and stage-to-stage certifications.
