Team-Ogun athletes at the on-going 7th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, have continued to increase their medal haul, as the team won a total of 26 medals, comprising 10 gold, nine silver and seven bronze medals.
Obasanjo OkikiJesu who clinched gold medal in Boys, (44kg) Free Style wrestling, revealed that his months of dedication, attributed his outstanding performance to rigorous training, preparation and commitment to the game
The highly elated athlete was grateful to God for making it possible for him to fulfill his dream of winning gold at the Youth Games
Also, 14 year old, Mojeed Rilwan, who won the State's first medal (bronze) at the games in Judo (40kg) category, described his experience at the National Youth Games as a memorable one, promising to do better in the next edition of the games.
Raji Asisat, a Para-Tabletennis player, who won silver in her category, vowed to work harder in her next game to win gold medal,
She added that her purpose of coming to the games was to showcase her talent to the whole world.
Team-Ogun won one gold medals each in Athletics, Para Athletics, Deaf Athletics, Shooting, Wrestling and two gold medals in Gymnastics.
They also won silver medals in Chess, Para-Tabletennis, and Shooting, while winning one bronze medals each in Chess, Judo, Para-Tabletennis, Shooting and Squash.
Ogun state is participating in 25 out of the available 35 sporting events at the games.
The State Government through the Director of the State Sports Council, Mrs Iyabode Rotimi has continued to reward its medalists with instant cash prizes
