Don't Drive Against Traffic Regulations -Ogun HoS Warns Drivers

Drivers in the Ogun State Public Service have been cautioned not to drive against traffic regulations

        

The State Head of Service, Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun gave the charge, while declaring open a 2-Day Re-Orientation Training for government Drivers at the Staff Development Centre, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, saying drivers in Civil Service are not expected to be involved in violating traffic laws such as driving against traffic, beating traffic lights and driving under the influence of alcohol.

 

Drivers according to him, are to serve as mirrors to other drivers on the road and dissociate themselves from any misconduct inimical to the Service

 

Fagbohun noted that handling vehicles and making use of roads depends on the caution and precautions they take, imploring them to think safety first while at their duty posts.

          

"It is a fact that road crashes recorded are as a result of human errors while a larger percentage of the road traffic accidents on the highways occur as a result of the carelessness of the drivers when compared to mechanical failure. There is a need for government drivers to think safety first while at your duty posts", the HoS said.

          

Earlier in her address, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Lydia Fajounbo, said government drivers played a crucial role in ensuring smooth operations of transportation activities in the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), noting that the training would equip them with necessary knowledge and skills for positive change in their attitudes towards making them exceptional drivers.

          

In his remark, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Political Affairs and Administration, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, said training is key for any development to take place in an organisation, calling on the participants to be efficient and have deep knowledge of their vehicles.

          

Contributing,the Permanent Secretary, Civil Service Commission, Mr. Adedayo Somoye, urged the drivers to be up and doing and have good behaviour towards their bosses.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Hospitals Management Board (HMB), Dr. (Mrs.) Olayinka Elemide, charged the participants to take care of their health through regular medical check-ups of their eyes and other parts of the body, imploring them to key into the government’s Health Insurance Scheme.

 

In his lecture, one of the facilitators, the Corps Commander, Traffic and Compliance Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Commander Olaseni Ogunyemi, who spoke on "Vehicle Maintenance and Management Routine" said, drivers should know about preventive, predictive and protective measures of the vehicles in their care

Speaking on behalf of other participants, Mr. Seye Suraju, appreciated the State government for the training and that the knowledge gained would be well applied in the discharge of their duties.
