ATM Not Dispensing Cash To Customers In Abeokuta Days To 2023 Poll

Commercial Banks in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital have refused to load cash into their Automated Teller Machines (ATM), as several customers continued to besiege their respective banks, less than three days to the 2023 general elections holding this Saturday

Scores of customers were still seen on Wednesday evening outside the main gates of some of the banks at Panseke and Oke-Ilewo areas of the city, trying to have access to the banking halls, since the banks decided to pay across the counter to them, despite the earlier order of the Supreme Court asking the Central Bank of Nigeria to make the new notes available within the extended period for the acceptance of the old notes till last Wednesday, February 22 before the fresh extension to 3rd of March, 2023 for the implementation  of the cashless policy and replacement  of the old notes with the new note

Edu-biznews gathered that the banks were not paying with new notes of N200, N500 and N1,000 but only paid in small denominations of N100, N200 to customers

The customers it was learnt, could only withdraw a maximum of N10,000 per day across the counter from their respective banks after waiting for several hours

One of the female customers who made withdrawal from her account, said she arrived the banking hall at around 7:00 am and left around 4:45pm in the afternoon

The situation is not getting better, despite assurances of President Mohammadu Buhari and Governor of the apex bank, Godwin Emefiele to address the problem of scarcity of naira which has subjected Nigerians to untold hardship leading to several attacks on the banks across the country in the past few weeks
