AFCON U20: Flying Eagles Beat Mozambique 2-0 As Cubs of Senegal Stop hosts Young Pharaohs of Egypt 4-0.

Nigeria's Flying Eagles on Saturday defeated their  opponents from Mozambique 2-0 at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations AFCON under 20 Championship in Egypt

The Ladan Bosso tutored side with the second consecutive victories qualified for quarter final with six points  behind Cub Lions of Senegal who thrashed hosts Junior Pharoah of Egypt 4-0  

Papa Diop of the Cub ions of Senegal on Saturday scored a hat trick which is three goals in a single match in a 4-0 white wash of hosts Egypt at the U20 tournament played at the Cairo International Stadium.

He scored at 59th, 73rd and 76th minutes to make his gals haul at the tournament five being now the highest goal scorer. His team mate, Ibou Sane found the second goal of the night at the 69th minute.

Soccer pundits were thinking Egypt that were four times Champions in 1981; 1991; 2003 and 2013 as well as Silver medalist in 2005; three times Bronze medalists in 1993; 2001 and 2011 which is 3rd best achievement in this category after Nigeria and Ghana, would come back to beat Senegal who were only three times Runners-up in 2015; 2017 and 2019. But between 2019 and 2023 Senegalese football has been on the rise for the nation is current African Champions in Men’s football and Beach ball.

It was a night mare for the hosts who could not explain what caused their woeful performance playing goalless with Mozambique in the opening match last Sunday, losing to Nigeria on Wednesday and now losing 4-0 to Senegal on their National playground, Cairo International Stadium It was a national disaster as they are out of the tournament even as hosts.
   
It is speculated that the team that won the Bronze at the world cup may be disbanded next week as the ouster is painful to the nation that was hoping to be among the four qualifiers from Africa for the World Cup later this year. 


Senegal topped Group A with full 9 pints having beaten Nigeria 1-0 on Sunday; beaten Mozambique 3-0 on Wednesday and now Egypt 4-0. Nigeria is second having 6 points after a lone goal win over Egypt and now 2-0 over Mozambique. Mozambique is 3rd with a point like Egypt no goal scored but 5 conceded though the team played goalless with Egypt last Sunday.  

This  Sunday, Group B final matches will be decided at 6pm when Uganda will try to swallow debutantes Southern Sudan and Central African Republic will plot a survival scheme against Congo.

Uganda defeated CAR in the opening match of the group 2-1 while Southern Sudan lost to Congo 1-2 but in the second group matches, debutante Southern Sudan shocked CAR 1-0 and Congo played 2-2 draw with Uganda.

Uganda is heading the group with 4 points, 4 goals scored and 3 goals conceded same as Congo; South Sudan is 3rd with 3 points, 2 goals scored and 2 goals against while CAR has zero points, scored 1 goal and has conceded 3 goals.
