Ogun State Government says patience, observance of road safety, training, and retraining are the panacea to achieving zero tolerance for crashes on roads, particularly during the Yuletide period.
The State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) Corps Commander and Chief Executive Officer, Commander Olaseni Ogunyemi made this known in Abeokuta at the recent 7th TRACE Corps Commander's Conference and Retreat for senior officers.
Commander Ogunyemi said the Agency since its inception seventeen years ago had exposed officers to different levels and categories of human capital development workshops to advance their capacity for effective service delivery.
Speaking, the State Commandant, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mrs. Ibinabo Archie-Abia enjoined TRACE officers to carry out their duties with human face and integrity, adding that her agency would not spare any erring driver under the influence of narcotics, as drug abuse was the major cause of road accident.
In his presentation, the Training Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, Commander Irewole Opadiran, noted that an awareness campaign on road safety was crucial to enlighten members of the public, particularly motorists, assuring that the agency would at all times synergise with TRACE to rid the State of crashes.
On his part, the Chairman, Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Riders Association of Nigeria, Comrade Kayode Sowunmi commended the State government and TRACE for organising the training, promising members’ cooperation on road safety.
Other speakers from the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Correctional Service, State Emergency Management Agency, So-Safe Corps, Nigerian Medical Association urged the TRACE officers to make use of the training and ensure self-safety always, particularly during the Yuletide period, adding that motorists should avoid over speeding and abuse of substance.
