Ogun State Government says it will focus on promotion of value chains business opportunities arising from massive production of rice, cassava, poultry and fish in the 2023 fiscal year under the World Bank intervention, to further consolidate on achievements recorded in the outgoing fiscal year of 2022
The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Adeola Odedina who made this known while defending his ministry's budgetary allocation of N333.91million before the State House of Assembly in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, said that the ministry would provide the required support to farms and agro-firms to actualize the objectives of the World Bank intervention project
Odedina who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mr.Dotun Sorounke in the ministry, added that attention would be given to agricultural land development, infrastructure development as well as provision of input and improved extension service to farmers while ensuring sustainance for women and youth employment initiatives
The commissioner stressed that government would sustain its review of allocation of land to enable timely access to land for corporate and individual Investors, to protect the right of land dwellers and ensure harmony in community relationships
He disclosed N30.73 million would be used for construction of administrative office and control post of the State Special Agriculture Processing Hub, for produce department to generate revenue for the government
Odedina revealed that another sum of N133.68million would be expended on construction of shed, open stalls and storage facilities for tractors implements , harvesters , planters with toilet facilities in each of the three Senatorial Districts in the state
According to him, the ministry will support infrastructural development through the construction of irrigation facilities for rice and horticultural crops, warehousing for farm produce, rural roads rehabilitation and establishment of horticultural parks and laboratories
He added that quality inputs including seeds, fertilizer and agro-chemicals would be provided to farmers to improve yields while training farmers on agricultural best practices
