Use Technology Positively- Ogun Education Commissioner Charges Learners




Learners in Ogun State have been charged to make use of technology positively, to develop and enhance their academic prowess and not for frivolous reasons.

The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu gave the charge at the closing of a boot camp in Abeokuta, organised by Teach for Nigeria (TFN) and Hewlett-Packard (HP) technology, revealing that students could explore internet facility for optimal performance in every aspect of life.

Arigbabu stated that the free and qualitative education by the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration had helped in teaching and learning activities and yielded results going by the outstanding performance of learners.

“The use of technology cannot be over emphasised, as it is being used to improve the usual practice in different sectors of life. I therefore want to encourage our learners to use technology positively to enhance and empower themselves for self-improvement and sufficiency”, he said.

The Commissioner commended TFN and HP for enhancing the technological knowledge of teachers and learners and supporting government’s initiatives in repositioning and revitalising the education sector.

 In her welcome address, the Chief Executive Officer, TFN, Miss. Folawe Omikunle, pointed out that the organisation was focused at ensuring that children in the country have access to quality education for self-sufficiency and enhanced national development.

Miss Omikunle explained that the technology boot camp was to train learners on ‘Hands on Practical Digital Skills’, to foster creativity, innovations and many more, adding that TFN collaboration with HP aligned with the State government’s giant stride in education.

Master Temiloluwa Kuti and Miss. Iyanuoluwa Oluwole of Abeokuta Grammar School and Egba Comprehensive High School in their testimonials, said the training was intensive and impactful for technology development, appreciating the sponsors for the initiative to empower young ones.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of laptops to participating schools.
