Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has assured over 100,000 workers on the payroll of Lagos State Government of an increase in their salaries just as he promised the outstanding pension to retirees by the end of this October, 2022
The governor announced the Pay-rise on Tuesday while speaking to a large crowd of workers who converged on the Head of Service, HOS’ office in Alausa, Ikeja, during his working visit.
Sanwo-Olu who did not disclose the amount of the increment, how ever assured the workers that the amount would be above the Federal Government’s minimum wage standard.
“We know there is inflation and high cost of living in the country, but we are determined to cushion the effects on our workers and residents'", he assured
“Last month (September), I instructed the Head of Service, HoS, the Commissioner for Establishment, Training and Pensions to work out modalities for a salary increase for the entire over 100,000 of public service workforce,", the govermor stated
“We are capable of doing this. Lagos leads while others follow in Nigeria. In salary increment, we are leading again", he added
“We are going to reflect the popular ‘Buga’ slogan in the payment of salaries. We are not going to wait for the Federal Government’s minimum wage increase.
According to him, the process for the implementation of the new wage has started ahead of the commencement of the payment of wages by early next year
“We have commenced the process. I can assure that by early next year it will be ready for implementation".
"We don't want workers union to hold us to ransom before we do the needful"
