CAF Competitions: Rivers Utd,Plateau Utd, Kwara Utd Walk Tight Rope



Nigeria's flagbearers in the continental clubs competitions, Rivers United of Port Harcourt, Plateau United of Jos and Kwara United of Ilorin are now walking on a tight rope after managing to beat their hard fighting North African Oppositions in the first leg of respective matches

The Nigerian league champions, Rivers United came from behind to beat CAF  Champions League cup holders, Wydad Casablanca 2-1 in the second round encounter played on Sunday at Adokiye Amesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt

Senegalese forward, Bouly Sambou gave the visiting Moroccans a lead in the 32nd minute, before Malachi Ohawuma drew level for the homeside three minutes later while Ghanaian export, Paul Acquah grabbed the winner for the pride of Rivers in the 54th minute 


Rivers United must avoid defeat in the return leg of the second round stage slated for this Saturday,15th of October, 2022 at Stade Mohammed V, in Casablanca, Morocco

Similarly at the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, Plateau United recorded the same 2-1 margin win against Tunisian Giants, Esperance 

Ifeanyi Emmanuel's 35th minute strike cancelled out Anice Badri's opener for the visitors in the 27th minute while Mustapha Ibrahim gave the home team the deserved lead and victory with the second goal 

The winners in the return matches will progress to the lucrative group stage of the competition while losers join  the third round of the second tier confederation cup  

In the CAF Conferation Cup match played at Mobolaji Johnson Stadium in Lagos, Kwara United also came from behind to defeat defending champions, Berkane 3-1, ahead of the return leg slated for Saturday at Stade Municipal de Berkane, in Morocco

Burkinabe forward Djibrin Quatarra gave the Moroccan side an early lead in the seventh minute of the match before Taofeek Ahmed grabbed the equalizer in the 73rd minute 

The Afonja Warriors then took the lead through Wasiu Jimoh's goal in 81st minute while Barnabas Daniel gave the Nigerian side two goals advantage into the return leg in Morocco ,this Saturday
