Ogun State State Government says it is now mandatory for all students in public and private schools in Ogun State to have Learners Identification Number (LIN).
The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu made this known while hosting the executives of The Muslim Congress (TMC) in his office in Abeokuta, the State capital.
Professor Arigbabu said the present administration had automated most of the education process in Ogun State from admission, registration, result processing, transfer and general administration of education in the State.
He said it would be impossible for students who do not have LIN to access education service in the State.
The Commissioner announced that Governor Dapo Abiodun had approved the recruitment of additional 1,000 out of 5000 teachers shortlisted under the Ogun Teach portal, saying 2,000 teachers had already being employed through the scheme.
He said the present administration has decided to improve the quality of teachers in the State by ensuring that it is not all-comers affairs as defined in its revitalisation agenda.
On the minimum requirements to be qualified as teacher, Professor Arigbabu clarified that possession of PGD is not enough for those who do not hold NCE or B.Edu qualifications.
He added that graduates with Third Class Division are not eligible to become teachers in the State.
The Commissioner said the Governor Abiodun administration decided to make existing secondary schools model ones rather than constructing new ones.
