Encourage Your Students To Appreciate The Benefits Of French Language- Ogun Govt Tells Teachers

Teachers teaching French language subject in schools in Ogun state.have been charged by the State Government to always make their students to appreciate the huge benefits of understanding and speaking of French language as an additional International language to English 

The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu gave the charge in Abeokuta during a courtesy visit to his office by the executive of the   Nigeria Association of French Teachers 

 Arigbabu noted  that proper understanding of the subject would open doors of opportunities for students in the future

The Commissioner stated that the study of French and other foreign languages such as German, Chinese, and Spanish was important and useful for preserving linguistic diversity among the people.

He noted that the present administration had great value for the teachers for their commitments to its revitalisation agenda in education, saying government’s strides in the sector would yield results when teachers were given the needed training and support for better service delivery.

“I want to urge you to continue to help us encourage our learners to study French Language because they will derive many benefits from it and creates opportunities for younger ones in their endeavours”, he said.

Earlier in his address, the Vice President of the Association (Ijebu chapter), Mr. Raheem Toyin lauded the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for supporting French activities in schools, such as Spelling Bees, which he pointed out had helped increase enrollment and improved performance of learners sitting for Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the West African Senior Secondary Examination Council (WASSCE).

He called for favourable consideration of French teachers in the recruitment process, to tackle the shortage of the subject teachers, more availability of french language activities in schools, extensive training of teachers for improved teaching methodology, and many more.
