Artisans, Others To Get Loan To Boost Businesses In Ogun

Ogun State Government has concluded plans to give out loans to artisans, skilled workers and traders, towards enhancing their businesses for the economic growth of the State.

The State Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, Hon. Abayomi Semako Korotoe-Hunye made this known in Abeokuta, during an interactive session with members of the Association of Skilled and Vocational Artisans of Nigeria (ASVAN), Ogun State Chapter.

Korotoe-Hunye said measures had been put in place by the State government to ensure that artisans were well equipped to enable them compete favourably, both locally and globally.

He stated that the Ministry would ensure quick intervention from security operatives to curtail any form of harassment of artisans in the State, facilitate soft loans from other agencies in acquiring spare parts and equipment directly from companies, which would make it cheaper, more accessible and also serve as check on usage of substandard materials.

In his address, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Alhaji Kolawole Ogunlana encouraged artisans in the State to duly register with Corporate Affairs Commission, the Bureau of Public Procurement, and the State jobs portal, which he noted would give them added advantage whenever there were job opportunities.

Appreciating the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for extending a hand of fellowship to artisans in the State, the Chairman of the Association, Comrade Mukaila Shodamola solicited more dividends of democracy for the downtrodden in the society.

Other members of the Association pleaded with the State government to engage the services of more local artisans and skilled labour to encourage them in their trades and boost their economic power.
