ASUU Dashes Hope Of Students, Parents.. Extends Strike At NEC Meeting




The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has finalized its decision to extend the six months old  strike which has paralysed public universities in Nigeria

ASUU arrived at the crucial decision to roll over the strike  after a heated and stormy National Executive Council, NEC, meeting of the union which started on evening of  Sunday  till Monday at its National Secretariat at the University of Abuja.

The  extension of the industrial action which commenced on 14th of February, has further dashed the hope of students returning to classroom and parents who are the sponsors of their children's education    nation’s public university 

Both students and parents had earlier expressed optimism that the strike would be suspended but the majority of lecturers at their respective congresses held prior to the NEC meeting, resolved to continue with the industrial action pending the payment of their salaries  Federal Government who insisted on not paying for the period of the strike 

Both the National Association of Nigerian students NANS and Parents Teachers Association PTA have withdrawn their solidarity for the strike, accusing the lecturers of fighting for their selfish interest  

Some of the branches of the union in Lagos State University, Ojoo, Ladoke Akintola Universitity of Technology, Ogbomoso, Oyo State amongst others have pulled out of the strike
