Sikiru Adetona College of Education Begins Degree Programmes In Seven Courses, Gets NUC's Approval For Eight More



Sikiru Adetona College of Education, Science and Technology, formerly Tai Solarin College of Education,Omu-Ijebu has commenced running of degree programmes in seven courses in affiliation with the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye in Ogun State,South West Nigeria

Provost of the College,Dr. Adeola Kiadese made this known on Friday in Abeokuta during a first quarter appraisal of Institution's 2022 Budget performance by the State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Science and Technology

The programmes fully accredited by the National Universities Commission NUC include B.sc Ed Computer Science, B.sc Ed Mathematics, B.sc Ed Political Science, B.sc Ed Economics,B.sc Ed Social Studies, B.sc Ed Guidance and Counseling and B.sc Ed Business Education.


The provost also revealed that the Institution had secured approval of NUC for additional eight new degree programmes 

Kiadese explained that the approval was given after the institution had carried out resources assessment for the commencement of eight new degree programmes in affiliation with Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye,

He added that the College equally  commenced its online professional diploma programme in education (PDE) within the period under review for teachers to update their qualifications . 

The Provost also hinted  that the management of the institution had widen the scope of its revenue generation initiatives , saying the  production of table water by the institution is  at an advanced stage

He however  requested for upward review of the monthly subventions from the State Government to the institution to enable it meet pressing financial obligations.

In a related development, the Rector, Gateway Industrial and Petro-Gas Institute, Oni, Engr. Ladi Alebiosu says plans were ongoing for the review of the Institution's scope of operations to allow for the commencement of six new National Diploma programmes in the forthcoming academic year.

The Rector explained that the management of the institute as part of its efforts towards revamping the status of the institution had engaged necessary stakeholders including regulatory bodies, State Ministries of Justice as well as Education, Science and Technology thereby attracting more prospective students into its programmes. 

The efforts according to the Rector, was geared towards reviewing the school's operational law to capture new diploma programmes in addition to the existing National Innovation Diploma (NID) being awarded by the school.

Responding, the lawmakers, who equally appraised the budget performance of the Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade as presented by the Rector, Dr. Isaiah Oyeyinka, commended the developmental projects and improved revenue drive recorded by the management team of the polytechnic and that of thd Sikiru Kayode Adetona College of Science and Technology, Omu in the period under review.

The Committee also appraised the budget performance of the State Teaching Service Commission, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Abraham Adesanya ICT Polytechnic Ijebu- Igbo and the State High Court as well as the State Judiciary among others.
