The Nigerian Senate has passed a bill seeking establishment of the Federal University of Transportation in Daura, Katsina state, the hometown of President Muhammedu Buhari
The red chamber of the National Assembly passed the bill, despite the problem of funding bedevilling public universities in the country, which has been the major agitation of the academic and non-academic staff who are currently on nation-wide strike over resolved issues with the Federal Government
The bill was passed on Wednesday after Ahmad Babba Kaita, chairman of the committee on Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), presented a report on it .
Kaita presenting his Committee's report on the floor of the senate in Abuja ,said the university would close the gap in knowledge of the transportation sector.
He added that the university would create capacity and generate job opportunities for Nigerians.
