Ogun To Go Tough On Traders Displaying Wares On Walkways

Ogun State Government has warned traders against trading on streets and displaying their wares on walkways of major roads, just as it directed environmental health officers to begin to enforce compliance with environmental laws.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, Hon. Farouk Akintunde who led a team of Environmental Health Officers to Sango and Ifo areas of the State, issued the warning while enlightening traders on the dangers of street trading, particularly on the median of the major roads

He noted that apart from endangering their lives they sometimes cause traffic bottleneck, thereby making life intolerable for commuters.       

According to him, "Ogun is an investment hub and the ambiance of its environment is important in attracting investors to the State"
The Senior Special Assistant added that the government would no longer fold its hands and allow traders to deface the environment.      

The Director, Environmental Health, Sanitarian Wemimo Onaeko noted that the government was not trying to make life hard for anyone, but after the welfare of the people, pleading with residents to make sanitation an integral part of their lives to prevent outbreak of diseases.
