Ogun NNPP Boss Seeks Scrapping Of JAAC,Accuses Abiodun For LG Chairmen Non-Performance



New Nigeria People's Party NNPP has called for the immediate scrapping of the Joint Account Allocation Committee JAAC, to pave way for direct disbursement of monthly statutory allocation from the Federation Account to the respective accounts of Local Governments in the country

The Ogun State Chairman of NNPP, Comrade Olaposi Oginni who made the call on Tuesday while featuring on a private radio programme "Smash-Lens" on Smash 88.1FM monitored in Abeokuta by EduBiznews, accused Abiodun and other governors of using JAAC to tamper with the monthly allocation of the local councils which has continued to affect their  performance in terms of execution of capital projects and other essential services at the grassroots level

Oginni who was asked to assess the performance of the elected chairmen in the state's 20 Local Governments within first 100days in office, said it would be unfair to appraise them, alleging there was no fund available to the chairmen to execute capital projects for the people to enjoy at the grassroots

He accused Abiodun of not being sincere with his charges to the councils chairmen during their Inauguration on the 26th of July, 2021, insisting that "NNPP will not hold any elected chairman who is not getting the needed fund accountable" 

"I pity the councils' chairmen because of the situation, they find themselves"Oginni added 

The State NNPP boss also advocated for scrapping of the State Independent Electoral Commission and asked the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, to take over the conduct of the elections into the local councils in the country

Oginni however stressed the need for transparency and accountability to regain public trust in the running of the affairs of the Local Governments in order for people at the grassroots to feel the impact of governance 

Meanwhile the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs, Afolabi Afuape had denied the alleged  tampering with allocation due to the Local Governments 

Instead,  he emphasised that the Abiodun's administration had always been augmenting for any shortfall from the allocation to the local councils, saying the State Government has continued to  demonstrate  transparency and  accountability in the sharing formular during JAAC meetings
