No fewer than sixty (60) inmates of the Old Abeokuta Ibara Custodial Centre are set to write the second semester examination at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), which commences this Tuesday 9th November, 2021
A statement made available by the Spokesman of the Ogun State Command of the Correctional Centre, Chief Suprintendent, Victor Oyeleke to Edu-Biznews on Monday, says Sixty (60) inmates are joining other students across the nation in high spirit to participate in the examination.
The Custodial Center provides a learning environment for many inmates to pursue various academic and vocational training as well as encourages them to devote their time to studies apart from their regular chores in the Custodial center.
It will be recalled that NOUN admitted at first eleven(11) inmates in 2018 to study various degree courses. Thirty Nine (39) inmates got enrolled in 2019 while eleven were on Tuesday 2nd November 2021 matriculated in the Ibara Custodial Center.
The Controller of Correctional Service, Ogun State Command, Abdurasheed Alimi who was on a visit to the center to see the level of preparedness and to encourage the students enjoined them to put in their best so as to have good grades.
He assured them of the continued support of the Nigerian Correctional Service to ensure good study environment.
The Controller explained that the Nigerian Correctional Service Act 2019 section(14) sub section.(1) made provision for education, training, vocational training, as well as training in modern farming techniques for inmates.
While responding, the officer in charge of the Center Deputy Controller of Corrections, Ayodeji Shuaibu appreciated the Controller for his fatherly concern for the inmates.
He assured the Controller that the inmates are well prepared for the examination and they will come out in flying colours.
The inmates have prepared to sit for courses such as Business Administration, Political Science, Criminology and Security Studies, Journalism, Peace and Conflict Resolution,Accounting, Economics, Christian Religious Studies and Economics Education.
