Ogun NUT Threatens Withdrawal Of Teachers Over Incessant Attacks If.....

The Nigeria Union of Teachers NUT has threatened to withdraw services of its members from public primary and secondary schools in Ogun State over incessant attacks on them,if the State Government fails to prosecute in court to logical conclusion, the erring parents and their accomplices who allegedly invaded schools  and attack Teachers

The State wing of NUT issued the threat  in a letter of protest addressed  to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Office of the State Head of Service, Commissioner of Police and other stakeholders, dated 18th of October,2021, jointly signed by its Chairman, Comrade Abiodun Akinola and Secretary, Comrade Samson Oyelere of which a copy was made available to Edu-Biznews on Thursday in Abeokuta, the state capital

The union expressed concern that Teachers are working in fear, recalling the recent invasion of Unity High School (Senior),Kajola, Ibooro in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area as well as Baptist Girls College Idi-Aba and Egba Comprehensive High School both in Abeokuta, during which Suspected Hoodlums who accompanied parents  dislodged, battered and inflicted serious injuries on Teachers

NUT in the letter is also asking government to blacklist the erring students and make them serve other deserved punishment before writing an undertaking that will protect the Teachers and denounce brigandage

Other condition listed in the letter, is that government should name and shame those involved in the act, to send restriction signals to both parents and students that the era of treating such serious matters with kid gloves is gone for ever

The union insisted that government must take these necessary action to protect lives of Teachers in the schools saying failure to do it would lead to withdrawal of services without further notice until  the State Government can guaranty safety of its members by insuring their lives with reputable Insurance companies in the country

According to NUT, " those attacks had shown high degree of moral decadence and porosity of our schools security system as against the pronouncement of Your Excellency on detailing of security men across our schools"

"It must be stressed here that these attacks contravened our human rights and an Act for health and safety to decent work", NUT stated

The union while condemning the ugly act, called for stakeholders meeting to address the disturbing trend in public schools in the state
