Yaba Tech Is Fully Ready To Become University Of Technology-Mgt

Management  of the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos  has expressed its readiness  to take off as a university of Technology, when President Mohammedu Buhari  eventually  gives  his assent to the bill upgrading the college to a university status

Edu-Biznews recalled that the Senate on May 19,2021 passed the bill upgrading the college to Federal  University of Technology, which is still awaiting the assent of the president for the institution to formally begin operation, to award degree certificate in its academic programmes

Deputy Registrar/Head of Public Relations of the college, Mr.Joe Ejiofor in an interview with Edu-Biznews last Tuesday on the institution’s campus in Yaba,Lagos, expressed the preparedness of the polytechnic to have seamless transition to a university of technology, considering quality of its academic staff and standard of facilities on ground

“Yaba College of Technology has all the features of a  good University Of Technology, there is no year we did not have PHd holders ,we have top-notch facilities , the best you can get in any good university, we will have seamless transition to a University of Technology”, Ejiofor assured

According to him, 45 percent of the academc staff are PHd holders  with 30 percent more to have theirs, to make it 75percent of the academic staff with PHd holders when the college takes off as a University of Technology

The Deputy Registrar hinted that  some of the  non-academic who did not want to be left out, are having their PHd qualification in the polytechnic

He  however quickly pointed out that having PHd should not be the only  yardstick for measuring good performance  of academic staff ,”we have in Yaba College of Technology, very good academic staff who can perform like PHd holders in terms of experience and work rate

On the number of academic programmes being offered by the college, the spokesman revealed that Yaba Tech is running 60 academic programmes fully accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE)

“The college also run Technical Education programmes in sciences, technology and mathematics education  in affiliation with the University of Nigeria Nsuka(UNN), we have a School of Technical Education which is domiciled in Yaba College of Technology  at its very large Epe campus ”,Ejiofor added

He attributed the recent rating of the college as number one polytechnic in Nigeria  by Webometric, a Spain based global ranking organization, to the excellent effort of the rector of the institution ,Engr.Obafemi  Omokungbe  who did not only talk but work the talks

The Spokesman described Omokungbe as a visionary leader who has what it takes to run an excellent academic  environment saying,” Yaba-Tech was previously ranked eight among polytechnics in Nigeria but the Rector,Engr.Obafemi Omokungbe promised a major turn-around ,he did not just talk but work the talks by ensuring he put a lot of things in place ,appointed Directors to actualize the target for the institution and designed a very attractive websites for the college, to let the public visit the site and appreciate the efforts of the management in terms of physical facilities and other basic things put in place to ensure a very conducive academic environment for the institution to become number one polytechnic in Nigeria as a premier higher institution of learning in the country ”
