Nigeria Institute Of Town Planning NITP has predicted that there will be chaos in the country in the future, if there is no deliberate effort by the Federal Government to carefully plan physical Infrastructure to meet the needs of its growing population
National President of the institute , Tpl Toyin Ayinde issued the warning on Monday during his courtesy visit with other top officials to the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) Abeokuta
He urged acting Rector of the polytechnic, Dr. Adeoye Odedeji to ensure that dissertation or research topics for students' project at the Department of Town and Urban Regional Planning of MAPOLY, were designed to solve the real life problems arising from inadequate provision of basic infrastructure in the country
Ayinde a Fellow of NITP warned that with the increasing rate of Nigeria's population and no deliberate effort to actually plan for provision of basic facilities, the country would soon be in chaotic situation with the continous over stretching of the existing infrastructure
His words, "Planning is beyond National Policy on provision of houses , it takes cognisance of our industries, infrastructure, educational system from National Planning we will be able to locate where are our industries, where are the likely market or International market and how to plan transport system for the goods, we should transport material from raw materials location to where industries are located to the Markets' location, to export location, that is what is called planning, we do not plan, we are just joking as a nation"
He urged government to take a cue from advanced countries , particularly Sygapour who only planned on over 700 square meters of land with several high rising buildings , shopping malls , good network of roads and other basic amenities
