Sagamu,Olabisi Onabanjo International Markets In Ogun To Get Face Lift

Two of the major markets in Ogun state,Sagamu International Market, Agbele-Makun and Olabisi Onabanjo International Market, Ita-Osu, Ijebu-Ode are to be given major face-lift by the State Government, to boost trade and other commercial activities 

The State Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Kikelomo Longe gave this assurance during a tour to both market, saying government is commited to completion of second phase of the Sagamu International Market

Longe stated that the government, in an amicable manner, has been addressing the challenges that hindered the project, stressing that the present administration remains unwavering at ensuring the market becomes operational.

She added that when completed, the project would positively impact the phase one of the market which is already in use and further boost the trading sub-sector of the State’s economy.

The commissioner also assured that the facilities at the Olabisi Onabanjo International Market, Ita-Osu, Ijebu-Ode, would be upgraded while security condition and other identified needs at the market would be given serious attention with the aim of actualising the objectives of the present administration for traders.

Longe added that genuine intension of the present administration made it set up the Market Development Board to provide conscious solution to the challenges faced in different markets

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Olu. Ola. Aikulola assured that the agency would intervene on the issues raised to help improve trading activities at the Sagamu International market.

Aikulola called on traders in markets across the State to collaborate with government and assigned managers to enhance general development.

Speaking earlier, the Iyaloja, Sagamu International Market, Yeye Olasumbo Bamidele-Nelly appealed to the government to address the issue of 1,200 unroofed shops at the market, as well as upgrade the Agbele road, improve security and power supply at the market.

Also speaking during the visit to the Ijebu-Ode market, the Chairman of the Market Development Board, Hon. Rasaq Daddah, represented by the Board's Acting Secretary, Hon. Idowu Sanusi called on the leadership of the market to ensure traders desist from dumping refuse in drainages and other activities inimical to development.

Responding, the Iyaloja of the market, Chief Oloruntele Ogunba who called for improved power supply, drainage and security, assured that the traders would cooperate with government towards the development of the market
