Ogun Assembly Demands Details Of Bills Assented By Gov.Abiodun In Six Months

Ogun State House of Assembly has demanded for details of bills assented to by Governor Dapo Abiodun between January and June this year

The House Justice Ethics and Public Petitions Committee 's Chairman,Hon. Solomon Osho asked the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr.Akingbolahan Adeniran to provide the details within a week, while appraising the ministry's mid-year 2021 budget performance on Monday at the State House of Assembly's complex in Oke-mosan, Abeokuta the State Capital

Osho explained that getting the details of all bills signed into law within the period,would enable the lawmakers have an up-to-date knowledge on the status of bills transmitted to the executive arm. 

Edu-Biznews recalled that the house during the period under review, passed bills including the Sikiru Adetona College of Education,Science and Technology Omu-Ajose Law, Fiscal Responsibility Commission Law as well as the Fund Management Committee Laws granting financial autonomy to legislative and judiciary arms of government respectively amongst others

Adeniran had revealed to the committee during the budget appraisal excercise  that a total of 25 bills passed by the State Assembly were assented to by the  governor between January and June this year, while two others were under consideration. 

Adeniran added that five Executive Orders establishing State Safety Commission, Waste Management Authority, State Skills Funds, Lagos/ Ogun Joint Development Commission and Framework for Responsible and Inclusive Land Intensive Agricultural Investment (FRILIA) were also issued within the period under review.

The Attorney General noted that the Public Prosecution Department of the Ministry set out strategies which resulted in turnaround time for issuance of legal advice from more than two years before to four weeks for legal advice and six weeks for filling of information papers towards aiding speedy justice dispensation.

In another development, the Chief Registrar, State Judiciary, Mrs.  Olufunke Odubanjo, while presenting the budget performance of the Judiciary, stated that the State remained the first in the South West Geo-political zone to achieve the effective running of four Multi-door Court Houses situated in Abeokuta, Ijebu-Ode, Sagamu and another newly commissioned in Ota. 

The Chief Registrar stated that despite the JUSUN industrial action which slowed down the budget performance of the Judiciary, there was renovation of High Courts 2 and 3 at Sagamu, commissioning of High Court, Idi-Oke in Igbesa and renovation of High Court Library, Ilaro.

She added that a total of N40.53m revenue was generated into government coffers in the period under review.

The lawmakers also examined the budget performance reports of the State Customary Court of Appeal and Judicial Service Commission.
