The immediate past Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, (FUNAAB), Prof.Olusola Bandele Oyewole has been appointed as Secretary General of the Association of African Universities (AAU) based in Accra, Ghana
Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof.Abubakar Adamu Rasheed in a congratulatory message to the Professor of Food Science and Technology, dated 23rd of August, 2021 made available to Edu-Biznews, lauded the appointment, describing it as well deserved one
The Commission attributed the appointment of Oyewole to what it described as "his sterling qualities and a visionary leader as a seasoned university administrator as well as a Scholar of International repute
Accordiing to NUC ,"the appointment, is an indication of his huge contributions to the development of university education in Nigeria and the African continent
The Nigeria's university regulatory body recalled the achievements of Oyewole as a former Vice-Chancellor of FUNAAB and distinguished scholar and Senior Expert in Higher Education in African continent, saying his experiences in various capacities would provide solid ground for him to succeed in the major task of the much needed reform in the Africa's Higher Education Sector
"I write on behalf of the management, staff of National Universities Commission NUC and entire University System in Nigeria to most heartily congratulate you on your well deserved appointment. I'm confident that with your wealth of experience, you will succeed in taking Africa's Higher Education portfolio to an enviable heights", the letter stated
NUC pledged its unwavering support to the Association of African Universities AAU, to ensure mutual benefits for the university system in Nigeria and the continent at large
