NPFL: Rivers Utd Grab Second Spot As Sunshine Stars Escape Relegation

Rivers United of Port-harcourt eventually grabbed CAF Champions League's ticket after finishing on the second position with 66points in the Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL, following a three maximum points in its favour in a protest against Jigawa Golden Stars of Dutse 

The pride of Rivers despite losing to host Sunshine Stars of Akure by a lone-goal in the last league match on Thursday, regained the second position, after Jigawa Golden Stars was punished by the Nigeria Football Federation NFF Disciplinary Committee for fielding illegible Richard Christopher in the week 34 match played at the Ahmedu Bello Stadium in Kaduna

With the decision, the Port-harcourt based side finished with superior goal difference of plus 15 as against Enyimba International of Aba who finished in the third position with the same 66points but plus eight goals, to settled for the CAF Confederation Cup's ticket

Sunshine Stars of Akure escaped being relegated from the top-flight league with 45points after its crucial home win against Rivers United 

The Aba Elephants recorded a massive 3-1win against their host, Dakkada United in Uyo with Anayo Iwuala opening scoring in the 12th minute and Timileyin doubling the lead in the 25th minute

Dakkada United reduced the goals tally through Bashiru's strike in the 29th before Iwuala completed a brace in the 78th minute to secure the vital maximum three points for Enyimba who climbed from fifth position to finish on the third spot with 66points behind Rivers United and Champions, Akwa United of Uyo who lost its last match two/one on the road against Lobi Stars of Makurdi, to finish the season with 71points

Kwara United of Ilorin also moved to the fourth position with 65points for  continental ticket in CAF Confederation Cup , after thrashing visiting Katsina United three/nil  

It was sad tale for Nasarawa United of Lafia who failed to maintain their second position, after losing one/three to host Abia Warriors, to remain with 65points and drop to the fifth position on inferior goals difference of plus 17 as against Kwara United's plus 20goals

Kano Pillars equally failed to hold on their third position after  suffering a narrow lone-goal defeat by Heartland in Owerri, to remain with 64points 

Enugu Rangers defeated visitors Plateau United of Jos by two/nil while MFM of Lagos recorded same margin against Jigawa Golden Stars
Similarly Wikki Tourists of Bauchi beat relegated Adamawa United by two/nil while  FC Ifeanyi Ubah of Nnewi defeated Warri Wolves by a lone-goal in the match that saw both sides already relegated 

Jigawa Golden Stars of Dutse with 43points and Warri Wolves with 41 points joined FC Ifeanyi Ubah of Nnewi with 39points and bottom placed Adamawa United with 25 in the relegation to the second tier Nigeria National League in next season
