MAPOLY Sets To Run Degree Courses Next Session




The management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, MAPOLY, Abeokuta is concluding arrangement with its affiliate, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, to commence the running of degree courses as from next academic session that will lead to the award of Bachelor of Technology BTECH Degree in some of the programmes being offered by the over 40 year-old tertiary Institution owned by the Ogun State Government

Edu-Biznews recalled that Governor Dapo Abiodun in April this year, approved the running of degree courses for the polytechnic in affiliation with the OOU 

Acting Rector of the Institution, Dr.Adeoye Odedeji revealed this to newsmen on Monday during a courtesy visit by top officials of the Nigeria Institute Of Town Planning (NITP) to the polytechnic on its campus in Ojere, Abeokuta, the state capital

He explained that the only holders of the National Diploma ND in relevant courses would be admitted for the degree programmes

"We will be starting by next session, our BTECH Degree Courses, basically we are taking ND graduates after their mandatory Industrial Attachment, they should continue to run their degree programmes to gradually phase out the award of Higher National Diploma HND by Polytechnics and end the dicathomy between holders of Degree and HND that is exactly what we want to accomplish in MAPOLY", he stated

Odedeji also disclosed that the polytechnic would be introducing additional academic programmes and establishing new School of Health Technology to be created out of the existing School of Science Technology, when the Accreditation team of National Board for Technical Education NBTE visit the Institution for accreditation and reaccreditation of programmes next September

According to him, the proposed School of Health Technology will include Pharmaceutical Technology Department, Epidemiology Technology Department, Nursing Technology Department and Health Technology

The Acting Rector added that other new courses including  Cyber Security,Hardware Engineering and Software Engineering ,Library Science and Information Technology, Environmental Biology, Fishery Technology would be introduced to expand scope of the polytechnic's academic base and maximize the benefits of the ongoing N245million  skill acquisition centre under construction in the institution

He also expressed readiness of the polytechnic for full acreditation of its Banking and Finance, Mechanical Engineering, Leisure and Tourism Management at the HND level

Odedeji assured members of NITP led by its National President, Tpl Olutoyin Ayinde that the polytechnic would review its curriculum to ensure that research topics for students  projects in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, aimed at providing practical solutions to real life problem posed by urban physical planning of the nation
