Bayelsa Utd Stun Nasarawa Utd 6-5, Win 2021 Aiteo Cup

Second tier Nigeria National League NNL side, Bayelsa United of Yenegoa booked their place in the CAF Confederation Cup next season, after stunning highly rated Nigeria Professional Football League team, Nasarawa United of Lafia 6-5, to clinch the 2021 Aiteo cup on Sunday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin-City, the Edo State capital

The Yenagoa-based club became the first team from the second division to lift the prestigious Cup since Dolphins FC's feat 20 years ago

The Solid Miners, however, could not overcome Bayelsa United who secured the last qualification ticket for next season’s Caf Confederation Cup with a 4-3 win in the penalty shoot-out.

The Yenagoa outfit opened the scoring through Inikurogha Okardi in the 19th minute before Nasarawa United drew level through Chinedu Ohanachom's equaliser.

Aliyu Abdullahi linked up with Silas Nwankwo to put the Solid Miners in front with their second goal but Bayelsa quickly responded in the 36th minute before the halftime

The two teams had settled for a two-all at the end of regulation time and extra time, before extending the encounter to penalties shoot out

The Yenegoa side converted four of its penalty kicks while the Nasarawa boys missed two  of their kicks, failing again to pick the continental ticket after missing the opportunity in the recently concluded Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL season

Bayelsa United are the second NNL club to win the Federation Cup after defunct Dolphins FC defeated El-Kanemi Warriors 2-0, back in 2001
