Akwa Utd Clinch NPFL Title Whip MFM 5-2, As Enyimba, Nasarawa Battle For Second spot




Akwa United of Uyo have won their first Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL title after whipping visiting MFM of Lagos  in a seven-goal thriller, 5-2 on Sunday

The Uyo based side now now  have unassailable lead of 71 points with a match to spare, nine points ahead of Nasarawa United of Lafia and Enyimba International of Aba who  are both in the second and third positions respectively with 62 points each the elite division  

Atshimene opened scoring for the homeside in the 24th minute before Mfon Udoh's goal in the third minute of  stoppage time doubled the lead before halftime

Again Udoh grabbed a brace in the 62nd minute but Mbonu reduced the margin from penalty spot for the visiting MFM from Lagos in the 68th minute

Akwa United later regained their lead through Atshimene who doubled his goals in the 87th minute before the visitors reduced the tally through Obasi 's goal, a minute into stoppage time

Atshimene completed hat-trick in four minutes of the stoppage time to secured the needed win and historic league title for Akwa United Football Club 

This Monday, the Nasarawa boys will be aiming for the three points at home against 7th placed Enugu Rangers with 59points to maintain their second position on the table 

Third placed Enyimba International of Aba with 62points will be consolidating on its position at home against Sunshine Stars who will also be struggling to survive relegation and Improve on its current 16th position with 41points 

Plateau United now with 51points, displaced Dakkada United of Uyo in the nineth position after  a two/nil win  in Jos Township Stadium

In other matches played, Katsina United consolidated its 12th position with 49 points and a lone-goal victory against Abia Warriors currently with 44points while Warri Wolves continued with its struggle to survive relegation, after beating  Heartland of Owerri by a lone goal to move to 41 points, leaving the visitors at  45points  

Later this Monday, Kano Pillars currently in the fourth position with 61points will be targeting three maximum to improve its fortune against 15th placed Wikki Tourists of Bauchi with 42points who equally need vital points to escape being relegated

Fifth placed Rivers United with 60points  need a win to climb the ladder on the table at home in Port-harcourt against Lobi Stars of Makurdi who are currently in eight position with 55points while already relegated Adamawa United in the bottom position will be playing for pride against visiting sixth placed Kwara United with 59points who will be targeting a vital win on the road
