2021FIBA-Afrobasket: Adelanwa Tips D'Tigers For Second Title

Former national basketball team's coach,Alabi Adelanwa has tipped Tigers to win their second title at the ongoing 2021FIBA-Afrobasket in Kigali, Rwanda, despite the Nigerian side early exit in the recently concluded Tokyo Olympic in Japan, losing to Australia, Germany and Italy in the preliminary round

The Nigeria's senior male basketball side will begin their quest for the second African title this Wednesday, playing in the same group with Mali, Ivory Coast and Kenya

Adelanwa in an exclusive chat with Edu-Biznews in Abeokuta, said that the team with quality of its players mostly from the American NBA League, would win the most prestigious basketball competition in Africa

"I'm sure of the team will move on and win the championship, if nothing goes wrong, with the quality of members in the caretaker committee of the Nigeria Basketball Federation NBBF being led by Engr.Musa Kida"

The veteran coach however stressed that Mali and reigning Africa Champions, Tunisia will be major obstacle for the team, considering the pedigrees of these countries on the continent

He expressed confidence in the technical competent of the American Mike Brown in leading the team to victory

"The boys and coaching crew are up to the task of ensuring good outing, couple with support of the board of the federation led by Musa Kida", he added

But Brown expressed concern that most of his players who played in the Olympic would be missing, because of their clubs' preparation for the NBA league which clashed with the timing for the Afro-basket

He called for adjustment in the calendar of the competition for Africa to get full compliment of its quality players to compete for their respective countries at the championship

In the competition's opener, Cape Verde created a major upset after beating 11times African Champions, Angola 76-71points in Kigali Arena while host Rwanda defeated DR Congo 82-68points in the other group game
