Ogun Inaugurates Committtee For Gateway Tertiary Institution Games 2021

Ogun State Government has revived the Gateway Tertiary Institution Games GATIG initiated by Gbenga Daniel's administration which has  discovered budding talents  that represented  the state at various national competition

The games however suffered serious setback during the eight years period of the immediate past Senator Ibikunle Amosun's administration with little or no sporting activities among tertiary institutions in the state

But the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Dr. Oluwadare Kehinde, decided to revive the games with the inauguration of a committee to organize the sporting events among tertiary institutions in the state

The commissioner while declaring open the inaugural meeting of the State GATIG 2021 Committee in Abeokuta, says part of the five-point agenda of the Prince Dapo Abiodun administration is to engage youths in the sector, which necessitated the revival of the competition.

Kehinde who noted there was need to curb social vices and create activities for the youth, especially at a time in the country when insecurity is on the increase, saying, "creating sporting activities for the youth will in turn assist the State in discovering talents for future festivals".

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Engr. Olayiwola Abiodun at the inaugural meeting,  appreciated the Directors of Sports of Tertiary Institutions in the State for the large turnout at inauguration, saying the competition would boost the image of the government in the minds of the youth.

In his remarks, the Chairman Technical Committee on Sports, Prince Tunji Onatolu enjoined the Directors to see the competition as a means of showcasing talents that abound in the tertiary institutions, saying the institutions had always been breeding ground for athletes.

Responding, Director of Sports, Crawford University, Igbesa, Mr. Taiwo Oyeneye says the reintroduction of the game is a welcome development, as it will be a good avenue to channel the energy of youths to good use and sustain it.

The Committee is made up of members of the Technical Committee on Sports Revival and Directors of Sports of all Tertiary Institutions in the State.
