NPFL Clubs Threaten Withdrawal From Aiteo Cup, Task LMC On Sponsorship

Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) clubs participating in this year's Aiteo Cup have threatened to pull out of the country's most prestigious competition, if urgent effort is not made by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to provide Intervention fund

Owners of the clubs in the elite division in a Communique issued after their last Monday's quarterly meeting in Abuja , also tasked the League Management Company to secure sponsorship package for the top flight league before end of the season, after four seasons of non-titled sponsor

They appealed to the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 and Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports to relax some of its restrictions, by allowing fans into various venues to watch matches in the league  inline with the protocols, just like being done in Europe

The club owners however condemned in strong term, the spate of violence in match venues, urging LMC as organizers of the league, to strictly apply the rules while stressing that the State Football Associations should henceforth be held responsible for such incident, since they are in charge of provision of security at venues before matches are played
