Ogun State Government says the National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB) certificate is not inferior to National Examination Council (NECO) and West African Examination Council (WAEC),
It clarified that the certificate is a legal requirement in admission processes into universities and other tertiary institutions.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Technical Education, Prof. Joseph Odemuyiwa gave the clarification while monitoring the ongoing NABTEB examination at Government, Science and Technical College, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.
Odemuyiwa explained that NABTEB was set up to certify technicians and craftsmen, adding that the certificate which had an international backing was meant for courses within the jurisdiction of vocational, technical and education.
Prof. Odemuyiwa implored youths, particularly those doubting the credibility of the certificate to take advantage of the opportunity to acquire business and technical skills, which are ways to making positive impact in the 21st century technology-driven world.
The Special Adviser added that the Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration was committed to producing technical and vocational experts who would drive the diversification programmes of government, and move the State from mono-economy to an industrialised one.
Principal, of the College, Mr. Jimoh Taiwo in an interview with newsmen, described the supervision of the examination as impressive, urging higher institutions of learning to accept the certificate in admitting students.
Meanwhile Ogun State House of Assembly has tasked the management of the State Technical and Vocational Education Board to partner coalition of technician, artisans and craftsmen in the State towards putting in place training and certification for youths to be self-reliant.
The Speaker, Right. Honourable, Olakunle Oluomo gave the charge while receiving the members of the Coalition of Ogun State Technicians, Artisans and Craftsmen ( COSTAC) led by its Chairman, Mr. Taiwo Lasisi, during a courtesy call on the Assembly.
Oluomo noted that training and certification of youths would create wealth and reduce the spate of unemployment in the State, promising the coalition of government's support towards achieving its laudable initiatives.
He assured COSTAC of necessary legislative backing to achieve the desired result in assisting the youths in the State to complete favourably with their counterparts across the globe.
Earlier in his presentation, the Chairman of COSTAC, Mr. Lasisi said the body which consisted of over 21 trade associations in the State, considered it worthy to support government by moving from ordinary to certified professionals with additional responsibilities at ensuring training and certification for the teeming youths in the State to be self-dependent.
Commending the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun and Speaker Oluomo for their commitment towards the overall development of the State, the Chairman assured that the coalition had the required professionals and equipment to train the youth
He solicited government's support in all its vocational and technical policies as well as grants to achieve its mission.
