A Head Teacher in Kano State, Malam Sabo Muhammad Ahmad has been sacked by the State Government for proceeding on break for celebration of Eid-el-Kabir without obtaining permission
Ahmad who heads Government Secondary School (GSS) Dambatta was accused of dereliction of duty, betrayal of trust, insubordination and gross misconduct.
The State Commissioner for Education, Muhammad Sanusi Sa’id Kiru, who announced the sack on Sunday, directed the Executive Secretary of Kano State Senior Secondary Schools’ Management Board to assign a new Headteacher to the school immediately.
The new Headteacher is to report to the Education Ministry this Monday for directives.
The Kano State Government had earlier directed all boarding schools in the state to retain in school their students writing the National Examination Council (NECO) examinations.
To ensure the students enjoy the festive period in the middle of examination, the government provided special feeding arrangements which included purchase of 19 cows as a special gesture for Salah.
But the sacked Head Teacher according to the Education Ministry, disobeyed the authority’s directives.
A statement by the Commissioner for Education, signed by the Ministry’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Aliyu Yusuf, reads in parts:
“The Commissioner of Education has just approved the immediate removal of Malam Sabo Muhammad Ahmad, the current Headteacher of GSS Dambatta and directed the Executive Secretary, Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board to send his replacement immediately.
“The removal of the former Headteacher was as a result of his inability to retain the 300 students writing NECO Examinations in his school, despite the circular released to all Headteacher/Directors to that effect.
“He reluctantly released all the students and also left the school for his home town, possibly for Salah break without informing the ministry.
“This action is a portrayal of laxity, betrayal of trust reposed in him, insubordination and gross misconduct
