Ogun LG Polls: Court Okays Ogundele As PDP State Chairman

Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has    affirmed the Sikirulai Ogundele-led state executive as the authentic organ of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State

Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon made the affirmation on Tuesday in a consent judgment which was based on the terms of a settlement brokered by the Bukola Saraki-led national reconciliation and strategy committee of the party and attested to on March 18, 2021, by the leaders and representatives of the contending factions led by Honourable Ladi Adebutu and Prince Buruji Kashamu.

The judgement has put to an end which of the factions of the party between Sikirulah Ogundele and Samson Bamgbose to be recognized and issued with nomination forms by the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission OGSIEC to contest the July 24 councils'poll in the state

Already the Sikirulah Ogundele -led State Executive is before an Abuja High Court, praying the court to stop OGSIEC from interfering in its Internal affairs and recognize it as the authentic organ whose chairmanship and councillorship candidates should be issued with nomination forms to contest the election

The Ogundele -led executive is accusing OGSIEC of denying it the right to contest the councils'poll, by issuing the nomination forms to a loyalist of the Late Buruji Kashamu,  Adeleke Shittu, whom the party claimed had been suspended from PDP

Justice Olajuwon had relied on the terms of settlement agreed by both parties and for the delivery of his judgment on the matter between the two factions

The terms of agreement brokered by the Senator Bukola Saraki led reconciliation committee, declared Ogundele as the authentic chairman of the party and that other positions in the state Executive Committee should be harmonised and be constituted by both factions to form one authentic Executive Committee

It would be recalled that the battle over the leadership of the PDP in Ogun State between the two factions has been on for over some time but the judgment of the Federal High Court delivered on Tuesday has laid the tussle to rest.

Before Kashamu’s death last year, Samson Bamgbose and Adeleke Shittu had sued the PDP, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Department of State Service (DSS) over who the authentic chairman of the PDP in Ogun state is.

The party broke into two factions between Bamgbose and Shittu after Kashamu’s death, a situation which led to the setting up of the Saraki-led reconciliation and strategy committee
