Ogun Govt Restores Water Supply, Asks Residents To Report Leakages

  

Finally, water supply has been restored by the Ogun State Government in Abeokuta, the state capital, after several months of waiting for restoration of potable water by residents 

Edu-Biznews recalled that the State Water Corporation had earlier assured the residents of restoration of Water, immediately after the rehabilitation of water dam at Iberekodo which was completed recently

Following the restoration of water, the Corporation asked residents of Abeokuta and its environ to report promptly, any leakages or damaged pipeline, so as to sustain provision of water supply and avoid wastage.

The General Manager of the Corporation, Engr. Oluseye Maku gave the advice during an inspection within the Abeokuta metropolis, to identify possible leakages and damaged customer pipelines, in order to make necessary repairs.   

According to Engr. Maku, commencement of rehabilitation work on the barrage and the time it resumed production might have damaged some consumers’ pipelines, which could result to leakages of the water supplied.

He said the present administration was intensifying efforts at ensuring provision of potable water to all residents across the three Senatorial Districts in the State, adding that all water schemes in various locations were currently being rehabilitated.

The Corporation’s Manager stated that one of such was the Ota water scheme at Iju, in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, jointly carried out by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and the Ogun State Government towards increasing its capacity from 6.9 million litres to about 15 million litres per day, as well as other associated works, so as to meet the water demands of the people residing in the area.

Engr. Maku revealed that the Corporation would resume pumping of water to Ijebu-Ode area, through Yemoji water scheme, which was affected by the ongoing road construction of Ijebu-Ode-Epe road, saying the maintenance of Ikoto booster and Ikangba scheme would enhance water supply to Ijebu-Ode and its environs.

 He said the Corporation has sought for the cooperation of the Bureau of Electrical Engineering Services in the provision of power supply to improve supply of water to Apoje, Ijebu-Igbo and Ago-Iwoye areas.

According to him, the Corporation’s management was also engaging contractors towards rehabilitating damaged roads in the axis, adding that maintenance work was currently on-going at the Ogere/Iperu water scheme.

Speaking later in a chat with newsmen , some residents in the area visited, appreciated the Ogun State Government for fulfilling the promise made to make potable water available to them in the month of June.
