Ogun State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed a bill seeking the setting up of the State Judiciary Funds Management Committee, to pave way for the implementation of the financial autonomy for the judiciary arm of government in the state, as amended in the 1999 constitution of Nigeria
Three other bills also scaled through first reading, including two seeking establishment of Sikiru Adetona College of Education, Science and Technology, Omu-Ajose and the Obas and Chiefs, Council of Obas and Traditional Council of Ogun State and the one amending the law establishing the Ogun State Fiscal Responsibility Commission
The passage of the bill title: "H.B. No. 068./OG/2020- A Bill for a law to make provision for the Ogun State Judiciary Funds Management and other Matters connected therewith, 2021", followed the presentation of the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation by its Chairman, Kunle Sobunkanla at a session presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo.
Sobunkanla, thereafter moved the motion for the adoption of the report, seconded by Ganiyu Oyedeji and supported by other lawmakers through a voice vote.
The bill was later read and adopted clause-by-clause by the lawmakers, after which the motion for the third reading was moved by the Majority Leader, Yusuf Sheriff, seconded by Solomon Osho, leading to the third reading of the bill by the Clerk of the House and Head of Legislative Services, Deji Adeyemo.
Speaker Oluomo directed that the clean copy the bill be transmitted to Governor, Dapo Abiodun for his assent.
The house had earlier on June 10, passed similar to ensure the implementation of the financial autonomy for the legislative arm of government in the state
Both workers in the State Houses of Assembly and Judiciary suspended their two months old natiowide strike and returned to work, following agreement reached on the Implementation of financial autonomy by the governors in their respective states
Governors on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) over the weekend agreed to implement the financial autonomy in their states
