NNL Suspends League Over Bendel Insurance's Appeal Before NFF

Organizers of the second tier Nigeria National League have announced the suspension of  matches in Group B2 of the league, following the pending case filed by Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin before the Nigeria Football Federation NFF

Chief Operating Officer of the league, Emmanuel Adesanya who announced the suspension in a statement on Thursday, explained that the decision became necessary, given the number of outstanding matches involving Insurance because of its appeal before the football governing body in the country

According to him, ,"it is to give a level playing ground for all clubs in Group B2 in view of the critical stage of the league".

Edu-Biznews recalled that the Edo State Government's owned team had rejected the N400,000 fine imposed on Remo Stars FC of Ikenne-Remo by the NNL Disciplinary Committee, for violation of the COVID-19 protocols by allowing fans and officials to physically assault Insurance's players and officials during the goaless draw recorded in the recent match involving both sides

The Benin based side therefore filed an appeal before the NFF Appeal Committee, expressing its dissatisfaction over the decision and insisting on the banishment of Remo Stars from their Ikenne-Remo based to a neutral ground for the club's remaining home matches in the league

The Edo State Government subsequently withdrew the team from the league, saying the club would not return to the league, until justice is done against Remo Stars

Following the suspension, this Saturday match involving, Gateway United and One Rocket FC slated for the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta will not hold

However, Gateway will be clashing with the Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL leaders, Akwa United of Uyo in the second round of the Aiteo FA Cup
