Ogun Stops Sale OF Industrial Gas, Shutdown Two Plants Over Explosion

Ogun State Government has ordered stoppage of sale of Industrial gas and shutdown two gas plants, to the incessant gas explosion in Abeokuta, the state capital

The State Team consisting of Barr. Femi Ogunbanwo who is the State Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs Commissioner  and  Mr. Tunde  Oresanya(Special Adviser on Environment), Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Engr. Rasaki Ojetola and other government officials who  visited different sites  of the explosion and some gas plant outlets, sealed  of two of the plants in Omida and Idi-Ori in Abeokuta metropolis.

Abeokuta in the last one week recorded seven death and many people sustaining various degrees of injuries, arising from gas explosion Including the one on Friday at a construction company's site in Onikoko area, as well as on Thursday and Wednesday at the Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) and Conference Hotel respectively both on IBB Boulevard Road in Ibara

The State Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, ordering the temporary stoppage of the sale of Industrial gas during a stakeholders’ meeting in Abeokuta, explained that the order was to find lasting solution to the problem and ensure the safety of lives and property of the citizenry

Ogunbanwo who stressed the need for all major stakeholders in the gas sector to abide by the directives, warned that ‘’ Anyone found guilty of selling adulterated gas products or violating safety protocols would face the full wrath of the law’’

He reiterated that Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun had being in consultations with the federal authorities, charging relevant agencies of government and the Nigerian Police Force, to move round the nooks and crannies of the State, investigate and bring to book whoever found culpable of any sharp practices or negligence that could cause further occurrence.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Dr. Ola Oresanya described the incidence as an ugly development, which must be nipped in the bud.
