The ongoing nation-wide strike by the judiciary workers in Nigeria has distrupted the official corruption trial of former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel
The workers last April 6, joined their counter part in the State Houses of Assembly,to demand for implementation of financial autonomy by respective governors as amended in the 1999 constitution
Daniel is facing a 32-Count Charges including alleged illegal conversion of public landed property, false assets declaration and missappropriation of fund filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) before an Abeokuta High Court, since November, 2011
Edu-Biznews recalled the trial adjourned by Justice Larewaju Mabekoje at its last sitting on March 8, 2021 was expected to continue with a marathon session between May 10 and 14, but did not hold because of the Industrial action
The continuity of the nearing 10year-old trial is still hanging in the balance, as the Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) whose legal team began his defence since last year, will have to wait longer than expected, until the striking workers resume duty
Daniel was governor of the state on the then platform of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) between May 29,2003 and 2011, setting the record of being the first person to have ruled the gateway state for eight years
