IPPIS:ASUU,FG To Meet On Monday, After Deadlock

      ASUU President, Prof.Ogunyemi

Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) are to meet on Monday, following their disagreement over the platform to be used for the payment to the Lecturers .

The meeting  between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities again ended in a deadlock  on Wednesday, thus extending the over Seven months old strike by lecturers.

Spokesman for the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Mr Charles Akpan, who made this known, explained that the meeting adjourned till Monday next week, to enable the union leaders to get across to their members on the mode of payment.

Both parties failed to reach an   agreement on the payment platform that would be used in disbursing the salary arrears and the N30 billion Earned Allowance of the university lecturers.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige who led the Federal Government team had offered to pay the salary arrears and the N30 billion Earned Allowances of the university lecturers through the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System(IPPIS) platform pending the conclusion of integrity test by government on the  ASUU’s preferred platform, the University Transparency and Accountability Solution(UTAS).

But the ASUU delegation led by its National President, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi, was said to have insisted on UTAS for payment to the university lecturers, asking them not to enrol on the government salary platform

Among other things, the government had agreed to pay N40 billion, being the pending Earned Academic Allowance of the university teachers overdue since November 2019.

Federal Government is expected to pay N30 billion of the amount on or before November 6, while the remaining N10 billion would be spread equally over two tranches to be paid in May 2021 and February 2022.

Both parties also agreed to the planned release of N30 billion for the revitalisation of the education sector as well as disbursement of  N20 billion as funding for the revitalization of public universities, by January 2021,

Other agreemi include , seeking alternative sources of  additional funding for the university system in Nigeria among other conclusions.
