Prominent individuals including members of Dagburewe-in-Council and Oloritun-in-Council at Idowa in Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State have called on the police for detailed investigation into the September 16, 2026 alleged attack on the Hon. Ladipupo Adebutu led Peoples Democratic Party PDP campaign train for the party's planned mega rally in Ogun East Senatorial District
The PDP supporters have been accusing
Dagburewe of Idowa, Oba (Barr.) Sikiru Kayode Adefuape Okuribido of Involvement In the disruption of the visit to the town on the outskirts of Ijebu-Ode which has spread across the state and on social media platforms
But the Sobaloju of Idowa, Chief Yusuf Olatunji Olusanya addressing newsmen on behalf of the stakeholders at a press conference held on Tuesday in the town, cautioned against dragging the traditional ruler into Partisan Politics, saying the monarch would continue to be father to all candidates irrespective of the political affiliations, maintaining that the monarch was never involved in such destruction contrary to the claim by the PDP loyalists accusing him of working with government's agencies in the destruction of the campaign train
"Nobody , no government or government agency, instructed anybody or His Royal Highness to stop or disallow the PDP campaign train from entering Idowa"
"It is equally important to state that, to our knowledge, no formal notification letter was sent to the community or to the palace concerning the proposed campaign visit, telling the general public that the campaign was deliberately planned".
Chief Olusanya raised issues behind the choice of Idowa as venue for such a mega rally for Ogun East considering its relative small size to host large crowd of supporters across the nine local government areas in the district and therefore called for proper investigation into the incident
"The decision to organize the Ogun East Mega campaign flag-off which was later changed to Odogbolu Local Government campaign flag-off in Idowa despite heavy mobilization, rather than at the seat of the Local Government, raises legitimate questions about the planning, notification and security arrangements surrounding the event. Idowa is neither the largest town nor the most spacious location to host an Ogun East campaign capable of accommodating a large crowd from all nine local government areas.", he stated
The Sobaloju then called for proper investigation into the alleged sporadic gunshots directed at youths, looting of shops and destruction of vehicles, saying these are grave allegations that
must not be treated as political gossip but must be investigated professionally and impartially.
"The people of Idowa are therefore waiting patiently for the police and other relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough, impartial and transparent investigation into the incident of 16 September 2026.Let nobody attempt to rewrite history through social media", he insisted
